May is Asthma Awareness Month. Asthma is a serious chronic respiratory disease that affects the quality of life of nearly 26 million people across the United States, including more than seven million children. Cleaner air, both indoors and out, makes it easier to manage this potentially deadly disease.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) plays an important role in helping to reduce environmental irritants that affect our health and trigger asthma attacks. Hispanic-Americans, especially those of Puerto Rican origin are disproportionately affected by this disease. Therefore, EPA is sponsoring this webinar in Spanish to increase awareness on how to manage this disease effectively and the steps the Agency and its partners are taking to prevent asthma in Hispanic communities across the United States.

The webinar participants are:

  • Dr. Angel Rivera, President of the Puerto Rican Association of Allergists
  • David Diaz-Sanchez, Ph.D., EPA Office of Research and Development
  • Dr. Brenda Reyes, Community and Children Environmental Health Bureau Chief, City of Houston Teresa Lipsett Ruiz, Turabo University
